The Trossachs Hotel, Scotland

Artist: Brian Gerald

Publisher: Valentine & Sons

PM: none

I am going to begin to include some excerpts from travel guides contemporary to most of the postcards I post (i.e. 1890s-1920). I'll include the full title, author, and date of publication the first time for each book, and only the author each time after that. If no author is listed, I'll refer to the guide's publisher. Most of these are going to be available through Google Books. So....

From: Shearer's Guide to Stirling, Callandar, Dunblane, the Trossachs, and Loch Latrine. 1907

"This large and elegant hotel occupies the site of a farmhouse, which supplied the wants of the tourists half a century ago. The hotel was erected in 1849 by Lord Willoughby d'Eresby, but has been repeatedly extended. The hotel is one of the best in the country, and is also a good starting-place for exploring the Trossachs and mountains around the country of Rob Roy, the Lady of the Lake, and making excursions to the various places of interest in the district."

This hotel is now called The Balmoral. It was built in 1902, so it was fairly new when this card was published (judging by the car).

There is an alternate colorized version of this, which I will post at some point in the future. This card is part of Worcester's "Chic Series," which most commonly features cards by Elmer Keene.

Grand Pump Room Hotel, Bath

Artist: unknown

Publisher: unknown

PM: none

It doesn't look like this hotel exists any longer. Not sure if the building is still there, perhaps just housing something else?
